One Man’s Trash…
Thursday, August 27, 2009 | Category: Art

…Is another man’s treasure! These two artists demonstrate how beauty can be found in the most unexpected items and call attention to the wastefulness of our increasingly “disposable” society. Artist Yuken Teruya has taken paper fast food bags and turned them literally into life size forest dioramas. These are truly spectacular…I’d love to see them for myself!

Designer Scott Jarvie also created a beautiful work of art out of some most unexpected objects…drinking straws! Can you believe this amazing lamp, entitled “Clutch Light,” is created entirely out of plastic straws? It gives new life to thousands of non-biodegradable plastic straws which would otherwise have sat in a landfill for an eternity…

I also couldn’t help but notice Jarvie’s piece bears a striking resemblance to the work of one of my favorite artists, photographer Maggie Meiners. Check out her photos from her “Childhood Contemplation” series.

Wow….I probably would not have known those trees where made out of trash if you hadn’t told me. They are stunning!
