Renovation Heart-Ware

Tuesday, March 01, 2011 | Category: Decorating, Material Girls Projects

A lot of heart and soul (and lots and lots of time and patience!) goes into a successful renovation.  The completion of one of my projects on Chicago’s North Shore was a long time coming…over a year from start to…voila!

Collaborating with a client during a restoration is an exciting project, allowing both the homeowner and the designer to start from scratch on every detail.  Furthermore, as a sucker for a historic project (I myself have renovated/lived in 6  historic homes!) this was a truly phenomenal opportunity.  Not only is this a beautiful home by any standard, but it is a very historically significantly one to boot.  Built by George W. Maher, one of the fathers of the prairie school of architecture, the complete overhaul of this home has brought it up to date while restoring it to its original splendor. I loved the whole process!

Check out the photos I recently added to my website of this home.  And check out the De Giulio kitchen, which I just featured in another post :)

Julia, this is wonderful!! What a fantastic job. I particularly love the combination of the elegant living room sofa with the (leather?) sofa table with nailheads. Stunning!

I’m also loving all the artwork and the gorgeous rug on the landing. Thanks for sharing!

Kris,
The large piece of art in the first image of the living room is by Francine Turk. She is a local artist with some amazing talent! Her work was just seen in the movie The Dilemma :)
Thank you for reading!

Baylor,
That console table does look a bit like leather in the photo. But, it is actually a piece that I made using a champagne colored silk moire.
Glad that you like the rug on the landing- it is one of my all time favorite pieces by Lapchi called the “Beaded Curtain.”
Cheers!

Gorgeous! I Love the furniture in the livingroom. The color pallette is wonderful. I’ve dreamed of living in a historic house. I love the character they possess!

Amazing and nice color matching. Even the wall colors blend with the fabric curtains. It looks neat and pleasing to the eye .Very elegant and artistic arrangement.

All rooms look so elegant and classic. They are all lovely. They bring back the memory of the old times.
