Twice a year, I head to High Point Market in North Carolina along with two partners in design from my office.  High Point  is the largest furnishings industry trade show in the world which attracts more than 75,000 people every six months. Anyone and everyone in the interior design, furniture and accessories world can be found at High Point Market to showcase and shop all the gorgeous new product introductions. This past April, I was delighted to discover an amazing new company, Mitchell Black, and I was even more delighted to find out they were also from Chi-town!! They were only a few blocks away from my Buckingham Interiors + Design offices in Chicago this whole time! Well, hello neighbor!!

Mitchell Black is a lifestyle brand that celebrates the aesthetic from the past through modern living (Um, how perfect to fit my trademarked Modernique mantra??)  In 2012, Mitchell Black was created from a collection of vintage copper and silver plate etchings. These etchings have taken on a new life as a luxurious line of lifestyle products designed for those who covet exquisite trappings to accessorize their lux lives. The brand’s trademark designs are displayed throughout tabletop, wall art, stationery and fragrance product lines. Mitchell Black effortlessly amplifies the way we live, entertain and celebrate.

As we settled back in Chicago, we quickly arranged a visit to talk business, and soon it evolved into a perfect collaboration. The custom wall art studio offered so many options for my interior design clients!

With over 200 images to choose from ranging from anything architectural, modern, sweet, sexy, masculine, romantic, or royal and over 18 designer color choices, the options are endless.

It was hard to narrow it down, but take a look at the newly installed Mitchell Black art pieces inspiring my design team in our design studio!!

“Float” in color Midnight

Lucite frames give this broken up image a modern, edgy feel. The art is also accented my two of my other fave accessory lines Dunes and Duchess (another deal struck up at Market!!) and Global Views- which is very dear to my heart!

“Phonograph” in Royal, Periwinkle, and Midnight

We loved the statement of the repetition of 3 in ombre colors!

Of course I couldn’t resist the “Crown England” in Violet….My last name is Buckingham after all and purple IS our BID color!

Happy SUMMER!!! As of June 21st, the summer season is OFFICIALLY here!! After an extremely excruciating winter, we are all so looking forward to an amazing summer in Chi-town. One of the many things that I love about summer, besides the warm weather, sunshine, family holidays and eating outdoors- of course, is that it marks the “nautical” season. Living on the shores of Lake Michigan, we take our boating very seriously. We have to pack a lot of it into the few short months that we actually can. There are many nautical inspired pieces in my closet from anchor prints to my new fave navy Chanel espadrilles (nautical doesn’t always have to be so overt :)

With summer arriving, I couldn’t help but reminisce of a fave historic restoration client project of mine….my client’s gorgeous 200+ year old retreat in Nantucket that fortunately called for a hint and a nod to a pared down nautical theme all year round. My client and I (along with her daughter who I am lucky enough to have as one of our three summer interns at BI+D) shopped arose the Northeast and accumulated some crazy cool pieces. It was so fun working on this project!

The family room is “literally” anchored by a pair of cocktail tables fashioned from old brass portholes!

The mantle art is a found lead seahorse architectural staircase remnant.

The “Smooth Sailing” sign is from an old tavern while the antique carved whale was found in the fields of my fave Brimfield Antiques Market.

Nantucket Bedroom

Did you notice the “wave like” detail of this restored antique mahogany bed that was placed in the master bedroom?

A collection of antique whaling tools and a harpoon adorn the kitchen hearth. Also, an array of the families collected shells sit within an antique tray centered on the kitchen island. This collection is ever changing….

Here are some additional shots of this gorgeous home located on Orange Street- you should see the hydrangeas in season!

Meanwhile back at the ranch, we are loving our collaboration at my Buckingham Interiors + Design Showroom featuring fabulous pieces by Dunes and Duchess…they are available in an array of custom lacquered colors, but when done in their “Commodore of the Yacht Club Blue” (gotta love the name!!), these candelabras and light fixtures are given a cool shoreline vibe. In the classic white, their appropriately named “Lakehouse Chair” is definitely going in my next beachy project!

Nautical doesn’t mean just anchor prints and blue and white. There are many ways to incorporate a subtle theme into any space. Loving these bespoke rustic wood painted art pieces and the ship portholes adorning this nautical inspired bathroom. I like that idea :)

Nautical is of course a repeating big trend in fashion each summer. Here are some of Princess Kate Middleton’s revolving classic nautical looks….

And how some other fashion bloggers and stars interpret the trend!!!

I’ll be rockin’ my nautical stripes and prints all season!

Happy 4th of July y’all!! xx

High Point Market was a whirlwind week as usual!! So many amazing new innovations into the world of design and furniture. We purchased a myriad of goodies that will soon be arriving into our  Buckingham Interiors + Design showroom in Chicago!

Among those will be some ah-maazing candelabras designed by one of my favorite chic + wonderful pals, Stacy Kunstel, Proprietor of the acclaimed  Dunes and Duchess line and blogger extraordinaire- Stacystyle’s blog. We are so excited to announce that we will be the EXCLUSIVE dealer in Chicago for this fabulous line!

The work of photographer Michael Partenio and stylist and writer Stacy Kunstel appears regularly on the covers of interior design magazines and books. When they’re not creating memorable images for clients, they’re playing the roles of Dunes and Duchess in their bohemian island getaway, where they dream up wildly romantic products for the home. Each Made-in-the-USA, hand-finished piece carries a little of their love with them to you. Ranging from candelabras, lamps, tables, and etageres, all available in custom bright fun, lacquered colors, we cannot wait for these to arrive to Chicago! Gotta. Have.

One trend we noticed at Spring Market was the use of agate. We’ve been carrying these amazing agate side tables by Sophia Martin Home , a new bespoke Chicago-based furniture line, for the last few months and they have been a huge hit! Sophia’s love of organic materials was the design kismet motivation behind these handcrafted tables which are made by local Chicago craftsmen and composed of Brazilian agate–each unique in size and color, interlocking layers of fine hard wood, and a variety of custom finishes. We have placed these beauties in a current raging Arizona home- uh huh.

We were happy to see more of this beautiful stone introduced from tables to sconces this High Point Market!

One of our other purchases were these aged and gilded gorgeous angel wings atop selenite that we spotted at Tritter Feefer. Love them! Book ends…. me thinks?

We continued to see the theme of gold and angel wings as we traveled to Natural Curiosities and admired their beautiful artwork!

A few more of our faves: The new Giselle collection from Loloi Rugs (colors and patterns were eye-catching) ….I think we need within our showroom…., an art collection by Mitchell Black (love discovering other fellow Chicago businesses!), and the colorful gemstones adorning the chandelier collection at Ro-Sham-Beaux. Simply stunning.

This could go on and on and on….Around every corner we turned was another beautiful showcase of gorgeous design.  Last, but not least, we can’t forget our new boyfriend…As a chick heavy firm we welcome this dude into our lair! While he may be short-we aren’t judging! Props to a couple of my fave gals, Pam and Mary, stellar owners’ of  Tuesdays On The Boulevard. I have shared many an antique moment with these experienced and brilliant gals. Hail to the High Point Antique and Design Center! That’s my cue for my mantra #Modernique :)

For everything else, as our shuttle driver told us as he drove us from party to party, “What happens in High Point, Stays in High Point”.

Come check out our new finds soon at our Modernique Showroom at 1822 W Grand! Please disregard any typo’s or omissions- we were delayed 16 hours leaving Greensboro…Never loved Chi so much in my life! xx
