We promised you a couple weeks ago that we’d elaborate a little more on this month’s Elle Decor after it arrived in the mail…and arrive it did!

We came to find out that its gorgeous cover is a room designed by Elizabeth Martin, a San Francisco interior designer. The featured home belongs to actress Ali Wentworth and her news-anchor hubbie George Stephanopoulos and is located in Washington DC.

I got to looking more at Elizabeth’s online portfolio and her room designs are fantastic!

Here are a few of my favorites:

Elizabeth believes that not all beautiful spaces have to be all “to the trade” and that child-friendly chic does exist!

I look forward to seeing Elizabeth on more covers of my favorite mags- she truly is an inspiration!

Lauren and I both got our interior design degrees at OU, in Norman, OK…(keep the snickering to a minimum, you Texas fans!)

OU has a truly charming campus (at least in my opinion!), especially its “North Oval”. I was very surprised when I took a trip up to Norman for the first time, that OU is actually really pretty! Cute red telephone booths, gorgeous landscaping, and old buildings cover its campus.

Unfortunately, the biggest eyesore (and where we ended up spending ALL of our time) was Gould Hall. It’s a 1950’s building that housed all of the construction/interior design/architecture classes.

Yep- the beauty below was where we spent many a nights. Depressing, I know!

But future interior design students, have no fear, because a $27 million, 108,00 square foot, new building is actually in the works.

{The future Gould Hall}

The forthcoming building looks like it will be a pretty site, that is for sure.

Too bad I only got to experience Gould Hall pre-renovation. During my stay at OU, I always wondered what it would have been like to study in another building…at another campus. What would the similarities be? How would it differ? My one regret was never going abroad for a semester or for the summer.

How I always wanted to get out of run down Gould Hall (even just for six weeks!) and study abroad in Italy! Wouldn’t that have been nice?

What if your classroom looked like this?

And you got to work on interesting projects with classmates from Italy and around the world?

with this view….

And go on fieldtrips to these places…

Where do I sign up???

Nope, this is not a dream- just The Florence Institute of Design International.

This gorgeous campus is located in the historic center of Florence and is Italy’s newest boutique school of design. The first full session starts in January (there’s still time to register!) Not keen on interiors? They also offer programs in graphic design and architecture. Art, culture, and design is all wrapped up in one school! Imagine the historical sites you could visit on weekends- museums, museums, museums! (maybe even meet a cute Italian too?)

Perhaps I should go back and get my Masters in ID? Apparently it only takes a year! I could be the Material Girl reporting from Italy and be back in just thirty weeks…very tempting!

Sferra Linens is having their first ever NY sample sale!

Thursday May 7th-Sunday May 10th at Chelsea Market in NYC (75 9th Avenue)

Sale includes sheets, duvet, matelasse, throws, decorative pillows, table linens, towels and bathrobes. Too bad I can’t just hop on a plane to NY for the weekend- this sounds like an amazing sale!

If you’ve never heard of Sferra, they are a luxury home textiles company- selling their collections to Neimans, Bergdorf’s, Horchow and Bloomingdales.

They even have Ms. Wearstler designing for them!

I love the Hammered Cuff napkin rings! Looks like a bracelet Kelly would wear.

The Ribbon Pillows were inspired by a vintage jacket that Kelly came across while traveling in South America.

Thistle Table Linens bring an organic element to the dinner table.

Even Oprah’s Doing It!

We are still trying to figure out the ins and outs of Twitter- slowly but surely! It seems that every week, I hear it mentioned somewhere else- The Hills aftershow, Chelsea Lately (you know, some of the most important and educational programs out there)

But even Oprah has decided to get on the Twitter train. Now it MUST be getting big! Oprah is doing an entire show about Twitter this Friday. Ashton Kutscher will be on it (he is one of the biggest Twitter fanatics in the short history of Twitter fanatics)

But it is indeed going mainstream. With Oprah now endorsing Twitter, it’s sure to become even bigger. She should put it on her “Favorite Things” episode…can you imagine….”and everyone today gets to leave with a TWIIIITER account!!!” Fans start going wild.

Oprah hasn’t even written one tweet yet and she already has 30,000 followers! Her first tweet will be send out on Friday- make sure you are online to witness history in the making!

I wonder if Gayle or Steadman has as many followers as she does? Will she be @replying on there to Nate Berkus and Maya Angelou?

I know we aren’t Oprah and won’t send you home with a new burberry jacket, but we’d love if you joined our measly 458 followers…there isn’t much time to catch up with the queen of syndicated ratings!

Outside the Loop

How did I not know about Stray Dog Designs, “fetching home accents”? So cute!

They have been in every magazine there is (House Beautiful, Domino, O at Home, Elle Decor, House and Garden- you name it!) but somehow I’ve never come across their site, until I saw them in this month’s House Beautiful.

Their artichoke lamp was featured in HB’s “The Best!” monthly article.

They have such unique pieces…and when I say unique, I mean unique! Fresh, colorful, and detailed describes them well!

I know we are a tad early this year, but even their Christmas ornaments are darling! Look at those quirky pinecones. I’m a big fan of non traditional Christmas decor. Somehow I can’t bring myself to decorate with red!

The net stool/accent table is handmade of papier mache.

The tequila lamp!

I love the description of this pendant– formal black and white gets carayzee with a frou frou finial!

This orange scallop table has a personality all its own…trimmed in pink, this table is ready for summer!

Know of someone who needs a cute green twin headboard? Today is their lucky day.

What a charming online store…I’ll most definitely be back to see what inventive pieces they’ll come up with next!

An Afternoon with Dennis

Fashion designer, Dennis Basso has outfitted all different kinds of people in his well known luxury fur: NY socialites, celebs, movie characters, and hip hop artists, (just to name a few). His luxurious mink/ sable coats and chic alligator handbags are just a few of the fashion pieces he is known for. (I’m sure PETA just loves him)

{Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada- wearing a Dennis Basso fur coat}

Luxury is what he’s known for best- so I wouldn’t really expect anything less from his own getaway home, which was featured in Elle Decor this month.

Him and his partner, Michael Cominotto have about 4,000 square feet of outdoor living space on the Long Island village of Water Mill. They love to retreat here from the chaos of the city. Being big fans of the outdoors, they will have friends (like Tori Burch) over for lunch, drinks and swimming on the weekend.

His one story poolhouse is a 50 ft long x 20 ft wide space. All I can say is that I’m so completely envious!

His navy and white color scheme was conceived by interior designer, Kenneth Alpert. Blue and white ceramics, high backed wicker chairs, ginger jar lamps, leather ottomans, and Sunbrella fabrics, are just some of the features that draw me to this space. Oh and did we mention the fully stocked bar, delicious entrees and desserts to boot?

Dennis, we’ll join you for a cocktail any day!

I thought this was cute…this Easter weekend, April 11-12, you can enter DWR’s “egg hunt”.

If you purchase any floor sample, you’ll be automatically entered in a drawing to win one of two Arne Jacobsen iconic Egg chairs. (valued at $5,934.00)

This Egg chair was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1958 and is a symbol of sophisticated urbanism. It is believed to have been one of the first swiveling upholstered chairs (along with the Swan chair, he designed)

Good luck- it’s a beauty!
