I’m getting ready to move and am looking for a new sofa to go in my future house.  Sofas are the hardest piece of furniture to pick out since it’s the piece you end up spending the most time with so it truly has to be right.  Comfort, style, depth width, etc are all key factors when choosing a sofa.  Of course, how could you forget cost and lead time too?  I am needing a sofa QUICK and did I mention, on a budget?  Those two factors combined is not going to make for an easy hunt.

Of course I have my dream sofa in mind, (don’t we all?) but the dream sofa just isn’t feasible right now.  It’s something that I really need to save up for and spend my time thinking about so I don’t jump into something that I’ll be wanting to sell on Craig’s List in a couple years.  The sofa I am looking for is my “transition sofa”…one that will last me a few years and eventually (hopefully) lead to the dream sofa.

I’ve found a few stylish sofas, for under $1,000.

I don’t believe a single one of these sofas are manufactured in the US. Is that a concern for any consumers? At least West Elm is practicing sustainable methods. You do get what you pay for however. i understand that price is sometimes the overriding issue. But consider the issue.

Chloe velvet!!! Have you seen the consignment sofa in person?

I am totally in love with the Chloe velvet sofa. So pretty, and I have a soft spot for all things tufted 🙂

I agree- Chloe is my favorite! Although it doesn’t look too comfortable for tv watching! Lauren- went and saw the consignment sofa and wasn’t sure about the fabric- it was a cream but erred on the side of a warm golden cream instead of a more white/grayed out cream and the fabric was a little chenille-like. It was pretty though, I just couldn’t commit just yet!

Oh my gosh this is so great! I too am looking for a quick fix sofa that doesn’t look like a quick fix sofa since I will most likely be living with it for a gazillion years.
I bought a new Pottery Barn Basic couch with a tough as nails twill slipcover 12 years ago for $550. Last week i went to the store to inquire about a new white twill (least expensive fabric) slipcover for what has proved to be a great couch. New Slipcover only $650. OUCH!
Do you see now why I am so excited about your finds.
By the way, where have I been???I love your blog and you love so many of my bloggy friends! I look forward to visiting often.

Hey Lisa,

I feel ya! The Ektorp (from IKEA)’s replacement slipcovers are only $40! You must check them out! Stylish, inexpensive, and relatively well made sofas are hard to find, but I think this list is a start!

I have the Chloe sofas in my house and they are so soft and confortable, plus I bought them in Macys for 699 each. I have two boys under 10 and I love that for 80 dollars more they give you a warranty if they get stain they will clean them or replace.

Hi Maribel,

Really? That’s great to know! I will need to go test out the Chloe. I really really like it and think it would be perfect, as long as it’s comfy!

LOVE the pier1 sofa! Can’t beat it at this price!

Over the past year, I have done the “sit test” on just about every sofa in existence under 2K and I found the most comfortable and best value to be the Crate & Barrel ‘Willow Sofa’ in white. It was worth the splurge!
I previously worked as a furniture buyer then visual director for a chain of Philadelphia furniture stores. A lesson learned: You get what you pay for when buying upholstery… that is for sure!
