Every designer in Dallas has their go-to vintage stores that they frequent for the best deals and hidden treasures. EJ Interiors would like to share one of our personal favorites for finding the best in vintage furniture and accessories – Antiques Moderne! (We are not alone, this is even Barbara Bush’s favorite spot for vintage furniture shopping!) They are a one-stop shop – you can pick your piece and they will refinish, restore, or reupholster for you as well.

John Bacile is the owner of this 20,000 square foot space that is packed full of furniture, art, lighting, and accessories. He has a workshop in the back where they are busy restoring, upholstering and lacquering unique pieces for their wide range of clients. John finds some of the most amazing pieces that you just can’t find anywhere else, and he’s always got the history behind each piece! This guy really knows his furniture.

Take a look at some of the furniture pieces our clients have purchased and the amazing job that Antiques Moderne has done refinishing them –

Wing Chair BEFORE:

Wing Chair AFTER!:

We refinished the wood in a glossy white and reupholstered it in a fun gray and white fabric with shiny silver nail heads. Didn’t their team do a great job? Our client just loves it, and we do too!

This credenza stopped me in my tracks when I first saw it. I completely fell in love, and our client did too!

This is it BEFORE:

And here is the AFTER!:

We had John and his team lacquer this piece in a gray-blue color to coordinate with a fabric in the room. It looks absolutely fabulous now!

For the same client, we purchased two wing back chairs that were in need of a little T.L.C.

Here is the BEFORE:

We had Antiques Moderne reupholster the pair in a vibrant orange velvet to pop in the navy room. They turned out amazing!

If you live in, or ever visit, Dallas you must stop by Antiques Moderne to see their huge inventory of great vintage furniture. You’re sure to fall in love with something!

Their address is 1208 N. Riverfront Blvd. Tell John we sent you!

Snuggle Up!

Posted By MaterialGirls | Dec 02, 2011 | 3 Comments | Category: Bed and Bath, Shops and Showrooms

In the winter, I love to snuggle up with a crisp, white fluffy duvet.  In most of my projects, I opt to use white duvets because of the hotel-like feel and versatility.  Since they go with just about everything, it’s easy to switch out your color scheme often through accent pillows and blankets.

I compiled my favorite white duvets at every pricepoint (list goes from high to low).  Since good bedding can be few and far between, I thought this list might make your bedding shopping this winter just a tad bit easier!

Leontine Linens- Maxwell + Sadie

Queen Duvet- $585

What can I say about Leontine? It’s always been a favorite of mine and definitely worth every penny! Monogramming is a must on this bedding.  I’m loving this neutral look of theirs- so chic!

Yves Delorme- Athena Collection

Queen Duvet- $550

I just specified the Athena bedding in the Lin color for a client’s master bedroom.  Its 500 threadcount is what makes this bedding so luxurious and its clean-lined appearance is what gives this bedding such timeless appeal.  What drew me to it in the first place were the horizontal and vertical stitched borders.  Yves Delorme produces great quality bedding- and being in business for 160 years definitely proves that!

Bliss Living- Belgravia White

Queen Duvet- $465

This duvet is definitely one of a kind!  With enormous asymetrical pleats and a combo of  cotton, herringbone ramie, and white linen, this duvet packs a lot of textural punch!

Peacock Alley- Lyric Collection

Queen Duvet- $475

The Lyric Collection looks as peaceful as its name implies.  Another 500 threadcount beauty, this bedding is imported from Italy and comes in white, sable and ivory.

SFERRA- Kelly Wearstler- Tides

Queen Duvet- $473

The Viceroy Anguilla had similar bedding to this when I stayed at there a few months ago and it was SO comfortable!  This luxurious bedding by KW for SFERRA is made of cotton sateen that’s woven in Italy.

Bella Notte- Linen with Crochet Lace Duvet Cover in White

Price- TBD via your local retailer

With their only permanent showroom residing in Dallas, Bella Notte has become one of my favorite local bedding sources.  I actually just got some of their bedding for my grandma and she is really loving it!  For almost fifteen years, this easy-care luxury linen manufacturer has been providing their customers with high quality bedding that exhibits a “modern feel with a vintage edge”.

Williams-Sonoma Home- Classic Greek Key

Queen Duvet- $358

WS Home recently shut down its Plano location, so unfortunately now the only access we have to this bedding is online…but Dallas residents, don’t despair, as they have lots to choose from on their website!  This greek key bedding comes in blue, chocolate and white, and is a modern take on the classic motif.

Restoration Hardware- Italian Hotel Satin Stitch

Queen Duvet- $249

I use RH’s duvets over and over.  I pair them with funky pillows and custom bedskirts.  I have this set in my master bedroom and have nothing but good things to say about it! It’s been great these past few years. I love this hotel bedding because it comes in tons of different color options and looks good in both modern and traditional settings.

Serena and Lily- Berry Border Frame

Queen Duvet- $230

I have been dying to use this berry border bedding!  How much fun would this be paired with orange or navy?  Such a fun colourway and the matching sheets are extremely adorable.

Pine Cone Hill- Classic Ruffle White

Queen Duvet- $115

This flirty ruffled edge duvet is a great option for a more feminine room.  At 200 threadcount, this sweet looking bedding is machine washable and at an affordable pricepoint.

Pottery Barn- Pearl Embroidered

Queen Duvet- $99

This is a great duvet for the price! The pearl embroidery consists of tiny dots that come in multiple color options.  The porcelain blue is by far my favorite and is so soft looking, it almost acts as a neutral.

This past weekend we participated in the Hope for the Holidays event with Catholic Charities.

Pettigrew Associates in the Dallas Design District was kind enough to host the event at their fabulous new showroom off of Market Center Boulevard.

Back in September, we were asked by Catholic Charities to select a few pieces from their World of Goods store and revamp them using paint, fabric and other materials.  We love a fun vintage “Before and After” and also helping out a good cause, so of course we were more than thrilled to participate!

With the painting expertise of RetroChic Renovations, the upholstery skills of M&M Upholstery, and the mirror knowledge of Alamo Glass, we were able to take these pieces from old and worn to modern and fresh!

(All furniture pieces are available for purchase via Catholic Charities, so email us if you are interested!)

EJ Interiors was also asked to decorate a Christmas tree in the theme of our choice that was to be auctioned off the night of the event. Our “Hollywood Regency Holiday Tree” incorporated a chartreuse and white geometric printed skirt, gold peacock feathers, damask ribbon, and an assortment of funky decorations including- white feathers, gold and silver sunbursts, crystal droplets, solid chartreuse, mercury glass, pearl and mirrored ornaments. We were lucky to find the “tree topper” at West Elm which we had created using silver feather-like fans.

On Friday afternoon, we toured the new Pettigrew showroom, which had lots of amazing abstract art, incredible chandeliers, rock crystal accessories, and luxurious pieces of furniture. I loved their mix of traditional and modern in each vignette.

The best part of all, is that Pettigrew makes their own lighting! We went back to the shop where all the magic happens. They showed us a chandelier from England that they are currently working on for a client in Dallas. The scale of it was pretty amazing. Taylor is standing next to it (so you can really see how humongous this thing was!) Now if only we could see the house that this incredibly tall piece is going in….

Some more of their lighting. Isn’t the piece on the right gorgeous?

If you are a local interior designer and haven’t visited Pettigrew’s new showroom yet, it’s a must! It’s a great trade resource for clients with lots of unique and diverse pieces!

It’s All So Clear

Posted By Emily-Dallas | Nov 16, 2011 | 3 Comments | Category: Lighting, Shops and Showrooms

I am a sucker for all things glass- especially glass chandeliers! Whether it be Murano or just your normal translucent beauty, I’m game for either.

It was pure luck that I found this glass chandelier for my dining room on a shopping trip to Canton for only $125 (ok, my sister in law found it for me) but either-or, we couldn’t believe no one had snatched it up yet!

Lately, I’ve been on the hunt for glass chandeliers for clients and have been sourcing every one from here to Europe. If you have been on a hunt for one for yourself, my favorites list below should make your search much more “clear”.

Of course, glass chandeliers can come in almost any color, but I do have to say that I like the clear ones best.  Whether your decor is modern or traditional, you really can’t go wrong with any of these beauties-

This one from Currey has a slight gray tint, but it’s not very noticeable at all in person.  I thought it was completely clear when I first saw it. I love the shape! It also comes in a larger version.

Currey and Co. Guilia Chandelier

They don’t ship overseas, but I’m seriously thinking about getting this chandelier somehow couriered over here for a client!  It’s at a great price and comes in three different sizes-

Graham and Green Italian Glass Chandelier

This chandelier is a classic and I recently used this in my client Angela’s gray-green dining room-

Visual Comfort- George Chandelier

Up until a few months ago, Z Gallerie had the Calais chandelier in clear glass, but now it only comes in black and aqua. It was such a steal at only $399.  If you are listening Z Gallerie, please bring it back in clear!

The Moritz has always been a personal favorite of mine…

Now here’s one on sale..

William Sonoma Ashbury Chandelier

And of course we can’t forget to mention the queen of glass chandeliers…Jan Showers! Hers is the real deal-

Sophia Chandelier

Here’s a whole new look to the glass chandelier that would work well in a more contemporary setting with tall ceilings-

Vintage murano is always an option via 1st Dibs-

Last night Kelly Wearstler came to Neiman’s in Dallas to promote her new fashion line.  When I heard she was coming, of course I had to go check out her creations in person! Needless to say, they did not disappoint.

Of course the first thing I noticed was that she used her Tracery rug that she designed for the Rug Company in her “store within a store”.

Remember my client Stacey who stayed at Viceroy Anguilla a few Spring Break’s ago?  Well, she is equally as smitten with Kelly as I am, so she joined me on this little fashion adventure-

Stacey almost walked out with this pink chair…too bad it wasn’t for sale!

I noticed Kelly used a lot of blues in her collection. Super cute jacket-

LOVED all the jewelry, especially the cuff bracelets!

More cute jackets for Fall…

Leslie Pritchard from Again and Again chatting with Kelly..I’ve always thought they looked like sisters so it was too weird to finally see them right next to each other!

These scarves would make great winter gifts for someone who loves bold colors and prints-

And more of her fabulous jewelry-

Even her models were gorgeous!

I wonder if anyone else caught on to the fact that this mannequin’s outfit was so careful coordinated to the colors in the rug?

And then right before she departed, we managed to squeeze in a quick photo with Mrs. Wearstler, which was a fun ending to the night. She was wearing a jacket from her new collection and looked very pulled together (as usual)…

Now that we have entered the month of November… tasty holiday drinks are back on the menu, stores are stocking shelves with holiday decorations, and it is finally time for the once-a-year Dallas Sample Sale!! Trust us you don’t want to miss it!

This holiday season I will be a featured vendor at Hope for the Holidays, a fundraiser benefiting Catholic Charities of Dallas! The event will take place Friday, November 18th, from 6 to 10 p.m. at Pettigrew Associates in the Dallas Design District! It is such a great fundraiser and we would love for all Dallas MG readers to come out and support!

This morning, the EJ Interiors team took a little field trip to the Global Views warehouse sale! We got there right at 9 a.m. thinking we would be the only ones there… but the place was already packed! It was crazy and definitely took a lot of work, but we walked away with some AMAZING bargains!

There were rows and rows of tables covered in fabulous accessories…vases, candelabras, mirrors, trays, lamps, fabric, furniture, anything you could imagine… and people were grabbing everything in sight!

These etageres are to die for! I wanted to buy them all.

We started a little pile of our finds (which eventually grew into a HUGE pile), and continued adding as we discovered more!

Look at the assortment of trays we rounded up! We ended up buying two of the quatrefoil ones for ourselves 🙂 And the cream Barbara Barry tray was a steal! Wouldn’t these look great on a coffee table or ottoman?

Amazing selection of mirrors. We came back with two of these also…

This was a great set but we really wanted a few more to finish it off so…

We decided on this set of 6! Not really sure where they are going yet but somebody needs these!

And finally, here are a few pictures of our THREE dollies full of goodies! Please don’t show my husband these photos…

These lamp shades might be going in the office or be made into a funky light fixture for a client!

These vases were a hit! (Everyone kept trying to grab them!) They are real silver leaf and imported from Italy! Such a good buy.

As you can tell, we had a wonderful time and came home with A LOT of great stuff! Now we just have to find a place to put it all!

The Global Views warehouse is located at 7301 Ambassador Row in Dallas and sale ends tomorrow at noon! Definitely worth a visit!
