Furniture Friday: The Wing Chair

According to Wikipedia, the Wing Chair is “an upholstered easy chair with large ‘wings’ mounted to the armrests and enclosing the head or torso areas of the body.”  Got the visual yet?  Typically, when I think of a wing chair two things come to mind: navy and stodgy.  What I love about this room designed by Betsy Burnham, is that she made such an unpredictable seating arrangement around a seemingly predictable chair (albeit in orange).

Here are a few of my favorite wing chairs…

I LOVE this chair, used it before and it is sooo fabulous…

Who said you couldn’t have a wing chair on your front porch?

Okay, so maybe it’s a stretch, but the Egg Chair is the Modern Man’s Wing.

Geek or Chic?

Posted By Lauren-Houston | Jun 03, 2009 | 9 Comments | Category: Decor Accessories, Trends

My husband sent me an email this morning telling me he really liked Jill’s post on “Industrial Chic.”  At first, I’ll admit I was a little surprised that this look appealed to him.  Upon further reflection it actually made sense.  I mean, he is such a science geek and the industrial look can at times, remind me of a science lab.  How perfect for him!  I decided to dedicate this post to what I am calling, “Science Lab Chic.”

Jayson does this look VERY well…

Mecox Gardens also has some great pieces!

What an awesome classroom desk this would be!

Of course you need great metal cabinets to house all of your “curiosities.”

Every “classroom” needs a globe!  I love this one from Paris Hotel Boutique.

French Blue & Company has sooo many fun weird finds in their Curiosity Cabinet:

Of course, an industrial pendant is a MUST:

I found some great school house finds at Clutter in Round Top this year…

Instant Entry

mockingbird_manor_008

I’m still completely obsessed with this Parson’s Desk/Table from Mockingbird Manor.  As of April, it was still there…sigh…

In my perfect dream world it would be in my fictional entry with this celery colored grasscloth on the wall behind it.

Martha Stewart Coral Peonies or the like would always be fresh on the console with a Louis Philippe mirror on the wall above (I think a mirror in an entry is basically a must).

I’m so obsessed with this chevron jar I spotted here. A pair would sit underneath the console.

A pair of Cream Pagoda House Lamps & a Delphi Italian Ceramic Shiny bust (below) from The Well Appointed House would also reside on the console.

Naturally I’m sure of a few of my favorite statement necklaces from Anthropologie would end up stashed on the bust.

Now, I just need to find the perfect house!
