Furniture Friday: Camelback Sofas
Friday, November 06, 2009 | Category: Furniture

I STILL love this image of Ruthie Sommer’s living room that I’m sure has since been redone numerous times from the first time this photo graced the cover of Domino. The sofa is amazing – my favorite geometric fabric covering such a stodgy traditional sofa – it breaks all the rules! This ain’t your grandmother’s camel back – take a look at these examples and let me know if you could rock one!

I could work the Brent sofa and the one from Ruthie Sommers. The rest are a bit too traditional for my taste.

I meant the Gemma sofa, not the Brent. Opps

I love the unexpected combination of a more contemporary fabric on a traditional frame. It gives the furniture new life and makes it look less like a period piece. On the Calico Corners website, in an E-Newsletter about “Finding New Life in Old Furniture”, there’s a great photo of a camelback sofa in both Before and After states, finished in a Thomas Paul graphic print called “Silhouette” in color Kiwi. Here’s the link–scroll down to see the final result:

I am going to add that Lambert Sofa to my wish list and lets see who gifts me.
