I’m loving the subdued colors in this Rosemary Beach home designed by Atlanta designer, Melanie Turner.  It’s a nice change from the “sea” colors you typically see in a home by the water.  All the white slipcovered furniture keeps it light, but the grey tones give it an unexpected moodiness.  I’m liking moodiness right now…and I’d like a beach vacation!

I adore this compact kitchen.  Stainless steel hoods with a strong horizontal element like this one are in crazy demand these days.  The driftwood lamp reminds you that you’re still at the beach!

That’s a lot of seating!  I love the detail over the hallway openings on either side of the hood.

Comfy couches for a raining day at the beach.

I love this landscape!

I still love white bedding…the black shades on the lamp provides a crisp contrast.

For more of Melanie’s work make sure to visit her website.  The living room of the “Chatham” House is one of my all time favorites!

Fashion Translation

Posted By Lauren-Houston | Mar 08, 2010 | 5 Comments | Category: Design Inspiration, Fashion

I immediately fell for this chic ensemble when I spotted it on Franki’s blog. I could really relate to it because as much as I love black, I do need that pop of color!  My favorite part are the Chuck Taylors…so chic with tights and a mini, yet so practical for walking all over a city!

This Living, Etc. bedroom via Mimi and Meg really exemplifies the casual elegance of the woman’s outfit.  I love the fur throw tossed on the bed and the pop of striped fuchsia pillows, acting as the “scarf” of the room.

{Cynthia Rowley for Roxy Wedges}

When I spotted these kaleidoscope wedges by Cynthia Rowley in the latest Lucky, I knew I had to find a room to match!  I think this room by Eileen Kathryn Boyd hits the mark with its bold color, graphic pattern, and geometric accents.  Now we just have to wait until April for Rowley’s line for Roxy to launch…

I recently selected this sink for a client’s teeny-tiny Powder Bathroom.  It is so beautiful in person.  I love the hand crafted nature of the bowl, and the way the imperfect hammered finish refracts (is that the correct science term?) light in different directions.

Here is my drawing of the narrow sink wall (sorry for the small size, if I enlarge it, it skews the drawing).

This porcelain tile mosaic (also gorgeous in person) will be installed vertically on the entire wall (in the lighter color).

This is a sconce option.  I’m still looking for another mosaic tile for the splash behind the sink, as well as a decorative mirror.  The sink base cabinet is also still up in the air…it’s a process, people :)

I just had to share some more photos of Native Trails’ sinks…I really love the hammered nickel finish because it can go traditional or contemporary!

And the piece de resistance…a GORGEOUS bathtub:

CL Beaute Strass Pink

It was LOVE at first sight.  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE.  I knew these Christian Louboutin beauties could inspire an entire space, so I pulled together a dream living room inspired by the beautiful Beaute Strass pumps.

After spotting this fabulous coat on Emerson Made I immediately emailed my science loving husband to ask if he could please identify the big cat this coat most closely resembles (I really want a “classy” animal print coat).  This was his response:

“Definintely cheetah.  This will make the statement that you are the fastest and most agile of the big cats.”

Um, awesome! Ha ha!  We all can do a quick google search for animal print fashion/decor and find that there are more trashy versions than classy out there.  If home decor really does follow fashion, I wonder if cheetah is the next big thing?

I think we tend to forget that the original version in nature is SO GORGEOUS.

My “classy coat” obsession continued when I spotted this picture of designer Lizzie Bailey in a fabulous cheetah print coat (as seen with Michelle Adams of Rubie Green/Lonny Magazine fame).

Her coat looks pretty similar to the Top Shop one shown in this collage by Who What Wear.

I love this little cheetah print collar!

Yes, please.  Christian Louboution Miss Clichy 140 boots.

I had never before pondered the difference between leopard, cheetah, snow leopard, etc!  I’m liking cheetah a lot!  How about you?

**Disclaimer:  I am by no means a zoology expert.  These items shown may or may not be a good representation of Cheetah print.  If you have any insight as to the differences or discreprencies between the items shown and the actual animal, please leave a comment!  Also, I do not in any way support the killing of cheetahs for their hides…FAUX is fine for me!  Let’s not turn this into an animal rights discussion, it’s just for fun people.

I interrupt our regularly scheduled “Furniture Friday” to bring you my latest obession – CONCETTO! Made by the same people who brought us Caesarstone, this one of a kind countertop material uses cut semi-precious stones mixed with resin to create a low maintenance heat and stain resistant surface.  The possibilities of how you could use this material are endless!  My affinity for rock candy just intensified!

Check out some of their color choices and the unique ways they utilized it…did I mention it could be backlit for more drama?!

Amethyst anyone?  I love how this material can be incorporated into furniture design…
