A Pretty Place

Posted By Jill-LA | Dec 29, 2012 | 3 Comments | Category: Decorating, Design Inspiration, Designers

I came across this gorgeous home on Fresh Home, and couldn’t help but not feature it here on Material Girls – it is just so pretty!

The project was a full renovation and addition of an older home located in a prestigious neighborhood in Toronto. The project renovation was handled by the Toronto based interior design group McGill Design Group with furnishings from Plum Furniture and Design Solutions, also located in Toronto, Canada.

{A contemporary entry in a classic style architecture home.}

{A light and airy living room.}

{Classic details adorn the fireplace.}

{A clean, contemporary kitchen.}

{Custom bookcases and built-ins.}

{Wood paneling detailing in a powder room.}

{A gorgeous desk.}

{Desk drawer detailing.}

{The master bathroom.}

The Reindeer Project

Currently on display at the Century City shopping center (an outdoor shopping mall here in LA) is The Reindeer Project: a curated selection of twelve local artists who have transformed a blank reindeer statue into a unique piece of art. The reindeer displays are showcased thorough out the shopping center and being auctioned to benefit Inner-City Arts, a non-profit devoted to bringing arts education back to students in the public school system.

bulthaup, Robertson Blvd

Posted By Jill-LA | Dec 15, 2012 | 2 Comments | Category: Kitchens, Shops and Showrooms

Having two friends that have both worked / one currently working at Bulthaup, a German kitchen design company, I’ve long been familiar with this exclusive contemporary kitchen product. I happen to pop into our local Los Angeles showroom on Robertson Boulevard recently for a quick visit.

A full kitchen is on display in the showroom to view the various cabinet styles and finishes.

Sleek countertops integrating a sink make a Bulthaup kitchen uber minimalistic.

The streamlined sink detail.

Part of Bulthaup’s “Kitchen Workshop” concept, a kitchen workbench with a cabinet for housing appliances and supplies.

A kitchen vignette showcasing lower and upper cabinets with open work space.

Everything has it’s place: functional yet minimalistic.

The appliance garage; one of my favorite features for any kitchen (& have incorporated them into a few of my own kitchen design projects).

Appliances integrated into tall cabinet storage.

…or concealed behind cabinet doors.

The bulthaup showroom in LA is located at 152 South Robertson Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90048

Celebs + Fashion

Posted By Jill-LA | Dec 09, 2012 | 1 Comment | Category: Celebs, Events, Fashion, Shops and Showrooms

Last week I attended an event in West Hollywood at the Kitson store (co-hosted with Frankie B.) featuring a bevy of celebs. It was a fun fashionable night of cocktails, shopping, beauty bars, and perusing the fun items at the Kitson store (including fashion and decor). Of course, the highlight was viewing the “denim carpet” arrivals.

A peek inside the Kitson store on Robertson Boulevard.

Kelly Rutherford, of Gossip Girl, arrived wearing sparkly Frankie B. Denim jeans.

Actress Shenae Grimes shares the denim carpet with Daniella Clarke, creator and designer of Frankie B.

Actress Kelly Monaco wearing her Frankie B. Denim with a loose tee and blazer.

Loved seeing Kimora Lee Simmons arrive – she is amazon tall in those heels!

Actress/model Ashley Benson looked cute arriving at the event.

Lisa Vanderpump being interviewed by EXTRA.

Kelly Rutherford and Daniella Clarke shared a playful moment on the denim carpet.

The event took place in the center courtyard between two Kitson locations.

Mixed drinks were provided by funkin cocktails.

I am happy to announce the winner of Olioboard’s Holiday Entertaining Design contest that I took part in judging. So many fantastic and creative design boards were submitted (which made it a challenge to select just one!). However, one lucky winner was announced last week…

The winner: “A Blue Christmas” with My Two Designers by Olioboard member Anne.

Here are some of the other great design boards that made the top eight (you’ll see why it was hard to choose!):

“Relax & Enjoy” by Allison.

Another from winner Anne, “White Christmas.”

“Cozy Cool Christmas”

To view the other runners up, visit the Olioboard website here.

I recently got an exclusive preview of the Heimtextil Trends 2013/2014 which will be presented by Messe Frankfurt next month at the trade fair taking place in Frankfurt, Germany. The Heimtextil Trends 2013/2014 offers an in-depth view on influential developments in the area of home textiles.

This year, the current trends have been categorized into four distinct personalities: the historian, the eccentric, the inventor, and the geologist.

Here’s a look at the textile preview trends of what will be shown at the Heimtextil show in 2013:

Muted colors are seen in the Historian collection.

The Eccentric features vibrant colors and textures.

Vibrancy reigns in the Eccentric collection.

The Inventor features innovative textiles.

Undoubtedly earthy in the Geologist collection.

Pretty colors featured in the fabrics from the Geologist collection.

For more info, visit the Messe Frankfurt website for features on all the home and gift shows.
