Awhile back, I came across these fun chairs with some straightforward and sassy messages! Couldn’t help but think one of these chairs in a room would add some whimsy!  With messages like, “OMG” and “Time Out” – definitely a conversation starter should one walk into a room with a chair like one of these.

The chairs are the work of artist Sarah Ashley Longshore, based in New Orleans.  Her artwork is embroidered on vinyl  that she uses to reupholster antique chairs. Sarah says, “Everything in New Orleans is about art and music and fabulous houses – that’s what’s inspired me to create these chairs.”

Leave it to Kelly Wearstler to incorporate the most unique furniture and sculpture into her interiors, including the most unusual anatomical sculptures which (as quoted above) she deems “organic and sexy.”

The dining room of her Hillcrest Estate, amassed with figurines and sculptures.

The Malibu Beach Residence, with life size figures and overscaled sculpture (above and below).

If you’re ever in the hunt for antomically correct sculptures (as was I for a current design project), check out what 1st Dibs has to offer with their ever changing assortment of inventory and great connections to individual vendors.

This “Overlife sized Plaster Sculpture of a Face” measures approx 32″ w x 20″h” and is avaialbe through Talisman London.

This 1940’s Female Bust from the Czech Republic is available for $1,100 through Vintage a la Mode in San Francisco.

An Italian Cubo-Futurist Bust, circa 197o is made of tin.  Available through Dual Modern in New York.

Antique French Bust Of Diana “The Huntress” France circa 1880’s-90’s, from Moss Antiques in New Orleans.

Pair of 1930’s Deco Busts, finished in crackle lacquer from the Paul Marra Showroom in Los Angeles.

Bronze Abstract Sculpture by Artist Richard Etts in mint condition from Colin Fisher Studios.

Well, apparently Barbie has hired an interior designer and it’s none other than the Jonathan Adler!  Have to say, I am a bit miffed that it wasn’t me – I am, afterall, the one who decorated, redecorated, rearranged, decorated again, redecorated again, rearranged again and again and again…her house all throughout my *previous* years as a very young and budding decorator (I was about 6 or 7).  I mean, come on, did Mr. Adler decorate Barbie’s house when he was a kid?  (Okay, he just may have…)

That aside, Jonathan has done a marvelous job with Barbie’s chic pad – and she does deserve a designer like Jonathan Adler.

Just take a look at what he’s done for her bedroom:

Barbie is living it up – so glam, so chic!  Love the area rug, the headboard, the bench, the screen, the pillow with her initial!

Jonathan even customized a few key pieces for her, like this love seat:

It can be purchased here and includes the pillows and throw!

There is also this entire set:

Love the side table, the table lamp, the vases! And an outfit to match!

Barbie just seems to have it all, doesn’t she!  The wardrobe, the car, the house, the decorator…is she still with Ken?  I’ve lost track after all these years!

It’s no secret that I love books.  I have an overflowing collection for which I do not have shelf space for. My books become part of the decoration of my home:  stacked on the two console tables below my front living room windows flanked by a pair of lamps and topped with a candle and a vase, the stack on the tray table next to my sofa stacked within other trays, another stack on a pair of coffee tables, and yet two neatly stacks on the floor creating a vignette.  Books make for great accessories to decorating any home.  Whether used as props in styling or truly used in the decoration of a home, books undoubtedly have a decorating presence.

Books stacked on a console table, such as I have in my own living room.

Low bookshelves don’t over empower a room, these have an interesting design at an angle.

These bookshelves are concealed behind a drapery panel – a splash of color and an element of surprise!

A few books scattered across a coffee table provide good entertaining and leisurely browsing.

Bathing among books – this bathroom makes for a relaxing getaway.

Including books in a bedroom looks more sophisticated when it’s neatly displayed in a built-in shelving unit tucked into a corner.

Or just a few stacked on the bedside tables.

builtins

These beautiful built-ins are ideal in any transitional space – a hallway, between adjoining rooms.

These books add a colorful decorating element to this refined space.

Stacks of books on a console in an entryway or hallway with various accessories and artwork.

dining

I think more dining rooms should be filled with books!  Here is a space that offers more than just the typical dining table, buffet, and artwork.

In a more casual setting, these floating shelves make for a beachy inspired look in Kelly Klein’s home.

As Lauren mentioned in her recent post on bar carts, the ever changing display can go from glassware to other decorative displays, in this case – books, of course.

Karl Lagerfeld apparently has an addiction to books – the proof is in the picture.

table

As in this picture, I add the same decorative touches to my books – placing a vase or other object on top of a stack of books.

sit

A delicate coffee table calls for just a few small books – ones that aren’t too bulky or heavy.

Kelly Wearstler is quite the book collector – seen here among her custom built shelving and her children.  While I was at her office, I took a glimpse at some of the book titles she owns – including out of print and vintage design books.

office

This office space would have made a great addition to my recent post, “The Un-Office Office Space.” What office space isn’t filled with books?

rooms

And lastly, a house filled with books from room to room.
