Parlor Textiles

Posted By Jill-LA | Dec 07, 2010 | 3 Comments | Category: Decor Accessories, Fabric

Awhile back, I came across the site for Parlor Textiles, a lovely collection of fabrics and pillows. I couldn’t recall where I found the site, but I know for sure it was via another blog. Then I received an email announcment just prior to Thanksgiving for Cyber Monday. As I was revisiting the site – I thought this is certainly something to feature here at Material Girls!  The fabrics and pillows are so pretty!

{It was this email that piqued my interest, once again.}

The Winter Floral fabric shown in marine.

I love the Indian Deco Floral, which comes in indigo, yellow, and red.

And the Simple Ikat, which also comes in terracotta.

BUT…what I really loved when browsing the site is when I came across Parlor Textile’s designer Angela Clinton’s blog; were her unique concept / inspiration boards (many people know I love inspiration boards).

Royal Decor

Posted By Jill-LA | Nov 21, 2010 | 10 Comments | Category: Decor Accessories, Decorating, Floors

Kate Middleton has not yet asked me to officially be her decorator, but I know in due time she will call.  I mean, what with her upcoming nuptials to Prince William to be planned, she does have her hands a wee bit full at the moment. Of course, between the Country House and Clarence House, we will be needing to do quite a bit of sourcing and so I thought, why not get a head start?

First on the list, we will be needing to incorporate some family heirlooms (so many hand-me-downs!).  Then, we will want to update the furnishings, to bring a bit of personality into the interiors from our young royals.  The tricky part is keeping with the tradition of things. So I found the perfect start – why not integrate an area rug based on a stamp of Queen Elizabeth II? Oh, the Queen Mum would be so proud! Of course, we wouldn’t want to be stepping on her (not the smartest way to start off with your in laws!).  The likely place for this find will be as a wall hanging! I think Kate & I are off to a good start!

Kate is going to want one girly room at Clarence House, this could the perfect place for her Queen Elizabeth II wall hanging in pink!

Or maybe above the console at the Country House?

And since everyone is going to want to be like Kate, you can purchase your own right here.

Available at Stamp Rugs

What could possibly be the best of any room accessory? A coveted piece of artwork? Books? Vases? Flowers? Well, those are all wonderful accessories but I think pets are really the best accessory to a room. In fact, an entire home (it’s certianly an accessory that moves from room to room!). The majority of my clients have pets and the one thing they tell me is that the furnishings need to be pet friendly. I think pets make a room feel warm and lived in. So I was happy to see Elle Decor’s feature, The Dogs of Elle Decor.

An East Hampton Beach House.  The dog’s coloring matches the interiors.

Interior Designer Frank Roop’s Boston kitchen.  Starting to see a trend here, with the dog color coordinating with the interior colors.  Coincidence?

Michael Smith’s Bel Air bedroom.  (Another paired to match accessory?)

The Santa Monica home of interior designer Jeffrey Alan Marks.  Another room accessory that blends right in. How can’t this dog be the perfect compliment to this room?

A Miami Beach Home.  Yes, these short haired low maintenance dogs fit right into the contemporary clean line interiors of this minimalistic home.

A Manhattan stylist doubles up on her room accessories.

And, of course, from one of my own projects.  My client’s pug Bailey is my favorite of all the accessories my client’s have purchased yet!

{Thanks Andrea & Jeff for letting me feature Bailey…thought he could use a little attention before his new sibling comes along!}

Roped In

Posted By Jill-LA | Jul 10, 2010 | 6 Comments | Category: Decor Accessories, Decorating

Awhile back, I wrote a blog post about this staircase by interior designer Thom Filicia, using a rope as a handrail (loved the idea then, still love the idea now). I came across a website that manufactures ropes for handrails (and their line even includes the details such as fittings, knots, and towel bars).  The company is called Stair Ropes and they are based in the UK, with customers here in the States too.

They carry ropes in different colors and two-toned versions.

And different fittings and finishes.

And various types of knots and sizes.

Accessories too, like this towel ring.

I love the idea for an outdoor space too.

Door Stops

Posted By Jill-LA | Jun 23, 2010 | 1 Comment | Category: Decor Accessories

Such a simple thing – a door stop.  Funny enough, I once had a client who asked me where to find a nice door stop.  I sort of drew a blank then thought that would make a great innovative product design to invent a cool looking door stop.  Coincidentally, there’s Stoppy. Stoppy is a fun and decorative window and door stop that comes in an array of colors that grips all surfaces.  No more tripping over a big heavy object holding open a door.  (Available at Bed Bath & Beyond.)

Spring is in the Air!

Posted By Jill-LA | Mar 24, 2010 | 5 Comments | Category: Decor Accessories, Designers

It’s starting to feel a lot like spring here in LA – not bad for timing considering it is officially Spring now! We’ve been fortunate enough to have sunny, warm weather the past few weeks.  Now comes time for a little spring cleaning and a time to change out that wintry decor to fresh, bright spring/summer accessories.  I think the home collection by Trina Turk certainly says “spring is in the air.”

Palm Springs Block Pillow

Lator Gator Hook Rug

Palmetto Beach Towel

Trina Turk Citrus Candle

Palm Springs Block Table Napkins

Tapestry Pillows

And don’t forget an outfit to go with all those fun home accessories!

Spring Forward!

Posted By Jill-LA | Mar 10, 2010 | 3 Comments | Category: Decor Accessories

It’s that time of year again – this weekend we set the clocks one hour ahead meaning longer daylight hours. I much prefer this time of the year as I am so not an early morning riser and having a longer day feels more productive for me.

So in case you don’t already have a zillion clocks to change this weekend (and if you are anything like me, I like them all set exactly to the same time, a tedious task) then consider adding some fun clocks as accessories like these:

Crystal Block Clock

Around Clock

Lotus Wall Clock

Ghost Clock

galaxy wall clock

Bristol Cuckoo Clock

half day clock

teacher’s pet clock

Bling Wall Clock

pace wall clock

Petal Links Modern Wall Clock

retro clock
