For the longest time I have been wanting to share the amazing rug designs from Shivhon Rugs, and the motivation to do so has finally come – especially now that Shirley (the proprietor / designer behind Shivhon Rugs) and I have become good friends! I’ve always been a fan of her colorful, graphic rugs. Most recently, Shirley has shared some of her inspiration and direction for her forthcoming Fall collection and I look forward to seeing those come to fruition! In the interim, check out some graphic faves I’ve pulled from her site along with some she sent me.

Pearl-2

The “pearl” is so cute, would be great for a children’s room or playroom.

holly-3

Graphically sophisticated, I quite like the “holly” area rug.

A custom rug in the making, this is the Bella Rug.

SHIFT-7X106-45

Like an abstract canvas, love the colors of the “shift” rug.

vroom

A rug goes that goes “vroom” – I bet my nephew would love this one!

flutter

Beautiful butterflies – “flutter” is earthy and organic.

salem-small

“Salem” is so artistic, love the movement.

Aqua

New for Spring, the “aqua” rug will take you right through summer!

On a recent trip to NYC I got a big dose of inspiration checking out street art through out the neighborhoods of lower Manhattan (the Bowery, SoHo, NoLita) with Ginna of 27 Ground, also the Creative Director for Marc Phillips Rugs. Ginna has been collaborating with artists to create unique, one of a kind area rugs for Marc Phillips to be auctioned off for charity in conjunction with PS Arts. Ginna and I spent an afternoon wandering the streets of NYC in search of street art followed by a visit to the Marc Phillips Rugs showroom at the D & D Building to check out an exclusive preview of the latest artists designed rug collection.

Happy to announce a new Marc Phillips Decorative Rugs showroom is coming to Los Angeles! This past week I attended an event for the breaking ground party, in a very new and raw space, soon to be the LA flagship. Along with several friends, local artists / designers / and bloggers we kicked of a wonderful evening celebrating art and design.

The street side windows covered in Tracy Hiner’s very, very cool wallpaper!

Inside the raw space, a current gallery of featured artists.

At the party with friends (l-r): Morgan of ML Designs, Eileen of Christopher Guy, me, and Typhanie of Shoebox Decor blog.

Graffiti art, with a nod to PS Arts.

On my recent trip to High Point, NC for the Fall Furnishings Market, I had the opportunity to tour 220 Elm. One of several clusters of large scale buildings housing showrooms, 220 Elm is located right in downtown to High Point. The building features four levels of showrooms under one roof, ranging from residential to commercial, and is a go to source for contemporary furnishings.

Just outside the main entrance to 220 Elm is a colorful courtyard filled with contemporary outdoor furnishings, a great place for visitors to congregate.

One of the showrooms located within 220 Elm is the Leif Petersen showroom, which carries a range of European brand furniture lines.

A credenza from the Italian company Antonella Italia has a unique shape to it.

Loved these cluster of pendants (mounted from a single canopy) which is featured over a dining table upon entering Leif Petersen.

These colorful chairs by Flux are a hit! They come knocked down, folded like an origami shape, made of strong durable polypropylene, and are suitable for both interior and exteriors. Although they are surprisingly comfortable, cad add a separate cushion for extra padding and color.

The showroom also offers several flooring lines, such as this rug collection by Linie Design, the thick pile shaggy area rugs in a range of colors are all handmade.

A line of casegoods from Sangiacomo features many unique shelving and wall units. This wall mounted unit with a flip down panel and interior lighting makes for a great bar, especially in compact settings.

A contemporary, versatile wall unit for tv and storage also showcases various lighting features.

These modular, stackable drawer units are really cool – can stack to your desired height and vary the openings.

A larger rectangular version, which also come in a range of colors.

Within some are a single drawer panel disguised as two compartments, maintaining the clean, simple, modern look.

A selection of lighting lines is featured through out the Leif Petersen showroom, loved these globe pendants.

Some lines within the showroom are great for specifying commerical projects, such as these cafe tables and colorful chairs.

A really fun line is by Miniforms, which embraces technology with casegood pieces featuring iPod docks, iPhone charges within a side table, and other tech hookups conveniently built into the piece of furniture. We all proposed their side tables with iPhone charges be located within the lobby of 220 Elm – it would become our go to place for charging up during market!

Thank you to Heinz of 220 Elm for hosting us for a fabulous lunch and an afternoon of showroom tours!

Thank you to High Point Market Authority for putting together another great market, as always!

The other day I stopped by Decorative Carpets, a flooring showroom, located here in Los Angeles on Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood. Decorative Carpets carries everything from custom area rugs, to broadloom carpet, to indoor/outdoor area rugs – much which can be customized. Here’s a visit to the showroom!

At the entrance to the spacious showroom, samples in all colors, sizes, and textures line the walls!

I love these graphic area rugs, and the color combos they come in!

A larger scale wall hanging of the above area rug samples and drawers full of carpet samples – a designer’s dream!

Colorful patterns line the walls! Love all the creative options to choose from!

And more! Organized by color!

A fun pattern on a plush area rug.

This pattern could be great for either commercial or residential use.

These striped area rugs can be color customized.

A wide range of indoor/outdoor area rugs (reasonably priced too!).

For broadloom, soft solid colors like the pastels are available (& I thought would work so great in a nursery or kid’s room).

More graphics and patterns!

And if you happen to be window shopping, Decorative Carpets has a rotating window display by a featured designer (current vignette is by designer Chris Barrett).

Decorative Carpets is located at 8900 Melrose Avenue in the design district of West Hollywood.

Art & Rugs to Benefit PS Arts

Posted By Jill-LA | Jun 23, 2012 | 1 Comment | Category: Art, Events, Floors

(Area Rug by artist Alex Mason of Ferrick Mason)

This Fall, Marc Phillips Rugs will be holding a fundraiser to benefit PS Arts (a program devoted to ensuring art education in the community). In anticipation of the event, Ginna Christensen of Marc Phillips has invited eight Los Angeles based artists to design rugs for Marc Phillips, which will then be auctioned off to benefit PS Arts.

Recently, Ginna hosted a visit to meet one of the artists and tour his studio. Here’s a look “behind the scenes” of artist Cole Sternberg’s studio located here in Los Angeles.

A work in progress.
