I was recently introduced to the online source of Fiber and Water: a collection of accessories, including wall art and pillows, printed on burlap. Hand-crafted in Maine, with many patterns having a nautical theme, I was instantly attracted given my beach and boating upbringing on the Southern California coast. So much so, I encouraged Phoebe of Fiber and Water to reach out to our local boutiques, especially those of my hometown of Newport Beach and Balboa Island. Here are some of my favorite finds!

Love this coral pillow in teal.

The Reef Knot: Remiscent of my boating days.

A classic sailboat.

A collection of map prints are available in both pillows and wall art.

Of course, I had to find my home state.

Vintage prints are also available.

Monograms and custom prints make for great gifts.

For the dog lovers: cute pug prints.

Last but not least: I’m loving all the pattern prints!

A fun orange chevron.

Last month, just before the holidays, I received an invite from the cool guys at Clutter, to attend an event at Fleurish which included drinks and food and floral making arrangements. Fleurish is a local florist in Brentwood (Los Angeles) that provides a “bar” to create and make your own floral arrangements. A fun concept and a great place to team up for an event or party as the Clutter guys did!

And the question: Who/what is Clutter? They are a new company revolutionizing the idea of storing your extra “clutter” or perhaps a few things around the house you’d like “out” yet not ready to part with and maybe just don’t have the space to store it either. The people from Clutter will come and package up those extras, haul it away, inventory it, and store it. All until you are ready or needing for them to bring it back!

My creation. It was deemed “organic” while my partner in crime Deanna (a wedding planner), churned out something much more architectural in design. Ironically. She has a keen eye inherent of her event planning business.

And a special shout out to Josh from Clutter. He has skill when it comes to assembling gift bags. Thank you for the gifts Clutter! I have a special gift certificate giveaway to come!

The Christopher Guy showroom on Beverly Boulevard, in the heart of the West Hollywood Design District, is in full festive holiday mode. The front windows are decorated with gifts and an elegant white tree among sophisticated Christopher Guy furniture pieces. I happen to pass by the other evening en route to an event and catpured a few pictures of the glam window display.

Currently on display at the Century City shopping center (an outdoor shopping mall here in LA) is The Reindeer Project: a curated selection of twelve local artists who have transformed a blank reindeer statue into a unique piece of art. The reindeer displays are showcased thorough out the shopping center and being auctioned to benefit Inner-City Arts, a non-profit devoted to bringing arts education back to students in the public school system.

I am happy to announce the winner of Olioboard’s Holiday Entertaining Design contest that I took part in judging. So many fantastic and creative design boards were submitted (which made it a challenge to select just one!). However, one lucky winner was announced last week…

The winner: “A Blue Christmas” with My Two Designers by Olioboard member Anne.

Here are some of the other great design boards that made the top eight (you’ll see why it was hard to choose!):

“Relax & Enjoy” by Allison.

Another from winner Anne, “White Christmas.”

“Cozy Cool Christmas”

To view the other runners up, visit the Olioboard website here.

Happy Holidays!

Posted By Jill-LA | Dec 26, 2011 | 3 Comments | Category: Holiday

Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays!

I spent the past weekend on Balboa Island in Newport Beach for a holiday getaway. On Christmas Eve, I got a special treat – I met fellow Material Girls blogger Emily who’s visiting Southern California from Dallas! Emily along with her husband Ben came to Balboa Island for a brief visit. It was fun to meet up and show them around a bit!

A Christmas Eve sunset from Balboa Island.

On Christmas Day I had brunch at the Balboa Bay Club & Resort (which I blogged about last year).

It was a really beautiful day having brunch overlooking Newport Harbor.

Despite the “summer like” day, the private beach at the Balboa Bay Club was empty!
