While in NYC for the Brizo event I had the chance to meet up with our New York blogger Rebecca. We spent part of the day out walking the streets of NYC, where Rebecca took me around to see some design shops and showrooms, and in between we stopped for lunch!

One of our first stops was the Remains Lighting showroom in NYC (they also have an LA location too).

The storefront facade of Remains Lighting showroom in NYC.

Rebecca and I were both in awe of this large, oversized Mercer Lantern – it’s stunning in person!

We also passed through the Flower Market in Chelsea, it was neat to see streets lined with fresh flowers!

Both of us quickly got hungry, so we stopped at Cafeteria for a leisurely lunch…and talked non-stop about blogging, design, clients…I don’t think there was a single lull in conversation! (But that’s what happens when two Geminis get together!)

After lunch, we checked out canvas – which reminds me a bit of an upscale west elm meets Restoration Hardware with a little bit of Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters…all rolled into one!

Rebecca checking out this huge, large scaled tufted chaise!

Another over-scaled piece was this upholstered nailhead bench, we both loved!

Right on over from canvas is Housing Works, a store that takes donated items to sell for charity and has online auctions – such as this storefront window. The amazing thing is most of these items are rock bottom prices!

The finds at Housing Works.

So this place was like a little jewel in the middle of a big city! Following Rebecca, she lead me through a very narrow corridor, lined with mirrors, past a front gate, in the middle of tall buildings…and surprise! Here is a tiny little house – which houses an antique jewelry and home goods store!

Rebecca checking out all the little accessories at Pippin Vintage.

Our last stop was the showroom “from the source ny”, a really cool organic furniture store with unique pieces of furniture made from slabs of wood imported from Indonesia.

All pieces are handmade with natural slabs of wood, like this trestle table.

Really loved the metals legs paired with the natural, organic slab table top.

A handmade rocking horse!

Thank you Rebecca for spending the day with me and taking me around your city! It was so much fun to meet up with a fellow Material Girls blogger! Had such a great time!

There is something about a white kitchen that screams “classic, clean, and timeless.” While it may not be an appropriate look for every home it is often a request for many of my clients. With the right mix of finishes, there are a lot of variations on the classic white kitchen.

The bright accents of yellow make this otherwise all white kitchen fun!

Can’t quite give this kitchen credit for being all white, but it still remains classic as being black and white – and I love it!

A Carrra backsplash is undeniably classic.

Varying from traditional Carrara marble countertops is this more unique stone, Biano Macabus Quartize – stunning! (Read about it here)

A more modern classic white kitchen, always looks sharp when paired with stainless steel appliances.

A warm wood flooring, contrasting countertops, and bronze hardware give this all white kitchen characteristic (& the beadboard wall of the pantry too!)

Mixing countertop materials, such as in this kitchen with a butcher block island creates visual interest.

Last but not least, if you are going to play it safe with classic white cabinets – why not go a bit dramatic with the floors!

(Which can be achieved through staining, read here for the how to.)

This past Thursday evening, I attended the store opening event of west elm’s newest location on Beverly Boulevard in West Hollywood. The new 14,000 square foot space was designed by Thomas O’Brien of Aero Studios. The event was packed with celebs and design bloggers alike, including Bri Emery, Emily Henderson, Amy Smart & Carter Oosterhouse – among others. A portion of the night’s proceeds was to benefit The Art of Elysium.

The very cool double height “living wall” features west elm signage.

And well, if you want a good look at Amy’s outfit – but I actually had my eye on Carter Oosterhouse!

I’m a fan of fashion designer Tory Burch – and equally a fan of her chic flagship stores! The photo above is from her new Madison Avenue store in NYC – so glam! Check out some of her other locations across the nation – and globe!

While at High Point Market I had the opportunity to visit the Lexington Home Brands headquarters for an extensive tour of their 100,000 square feet of showroom space. Among the many lines Lexington carries, Henry Link Trading Co. and Tommy Bahama Home are part of their popular furniture collections. I was amazed at the vast selections and styles among all the collections, and impressed with the quality of the furnishings and fabric options.

Love this glam chair called the GretA with it’s pretty print and nailhead detail.

The Gigi Chair in a fun fabric!

These Kelly Bookcases are really unique.

I love the Aboriginal art inspired pillow.

Thank you to Amy & Shannon for leading us on such a great tour and thank you to Lexington for inviting us to come experience High Point & view the collections!

I’ve  just returned from an amazing few days at High Point Market in North Carolina! I was invited to attend and tour the Lexington Home Brands headquarters (more on that in an upcoming post). But first wanted to share some highlights of the past few days’ events and experiences!

Had the best time ever hanging out with these fabulous bloggers: (l-r) Christian of Maison21, Julieann of Create Girl, me, Cassandra of Coco + Kelley, Ashlina of The Decorista, Crystal of Plush Palate & Rue Magazine, and Katie of The Neo Traditionalist & Matchbook Magazine.

On the very first evening upon arriving at High Point, we were invited to meet Charles, the 9th Earl Spencer (Princess Diana’s brother) at the Theodore Alexander showroom.

The Althrop Collection features over 500 years of English tradition and heritage.

Theodore Alexander hosts the opening of the new Althorp Living History Showroom at High Point.

On Day 2, we went over to the IHFC (International Home Furnishings Center) to check out the Elite Leather Company space.

A vignette at Elite Leather Company.

Cassie testing out a chair at Elite Leather Company.

And another chair!

Next, we headed over to Visual Comfort where Paloma (also of the blog La Dolce Vita) gave us a tour of the Circa Lighting collections.

Each & every individual fixture from Circa Lighting is exquisite!

Cute pic: Paloma & Katie!

From there, Katie & I headed over to Market Square for a book signing event hosted by Rizzoli featuring Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Mary McDonald, Suzanne Kasler, Bobby McAlpine, Michael Connors, Henrietta Churchill Spencer, & Florence de Dampierre.

Interior Designer & Bravo TV’s Million Dollar Decorator star, Mary McDonald signing Katie’s book.

Both Katie & Mary share a love for pugs!

Back at High Point headquarters, I took a group shot of Julieann, Crystal, Christian, Katie, & Ashlina before we left for the Architectural Design party.

We wrapped the night up at a super fab party at the Halo showroom!

The ambiance at the very cool Halo party in it’s amazing space!

Early the next morning we were invited to attend the press breakfast with Martyn Lawrence Bullard where he gave us highlights and excerpts on his most famous client’s & their interiors!

Viewing the work of Martyn Lawrence Bullard from his recent book, “Live, Love, Decorate.”

After the press breakfast, Katie & I, along with Erin of the blog Elements of Style headed over to Lexington Home Brands for an exclusive tour (more on that next!).

Back again at High Point headquarters, we happen to meet Deborah Needleman, former editor of Domino magazine and current editor of the WSJ magazine. She had just spoken at an event at High Point & given away copies of her book, “The Perfectly Imperfect Home.”

The rest of the afternoon, we checked out InterHall at the IHFC wrapping up with cocktail hour at the very cool Global Views space – thanks to Erin for hosting us!

“Chair model” Cassie at the Global Views space.

The last event of our few day’s at High Point was the anticipated (& packed!) party hosted by Four Hands in a very cool industrial showroom.

Thanks to the High Point Market Authority for an amazing experience! More to come!

This past Thursday evening, I attended the store opening of Restoration Hardware’s newest location in West Hollywood.  The new space features a 24,000 square foot, two story showroom complete with a pebbled courtyard and room vignettes or “The Gallery” as it’s called.  The party was packed and filled with celebs, it was such an amazing turn out!

Once we checked in at the guest list, we entered into the main entry (pictured above) from the garden courtyard. The large scale lanterns, hanging by rope are stunning – in fact, all their lighting is equally amazing (I think that’s one of the features that really caught my eye in the new space).

In one of the main gallery spaces (where we hung out most of the night actually) is an oversize tufted sofa (so comfortable!), two of the reclaimed French floorboard coffee tables (back to back), with a large scale chandelier (again, another stunning light fixture!).

The crowd in one of the other gallery rooms.

Interior Designer Mary McDonald at the party.

Restoration Hardware CEO Gary Friedman with model/actress Jaime King.

And what’s an event without my BFF’s: Morgan and Brooke.

Also had a blast hanging out with Molly Luetkemeyer of M. Design Interiors and Christian May of Maison 21!

Los Angeles Sales & Events

Posted By Jill-LA | Jun 14, 2011 | 1 Comment | Category: Events, Sales, Shops and Showrooms

For Angelenos, a few upcoming sales and events are taking place, starting this weekend!

This weekend, on Saturday June 18th, Palihouse (as in the hotel, which I blogged about here)  is having it’s own garage sale.

Here are the deets: The sale will be at the Hacienda garage entrance, items include: sofas, tables, chairs, casegoods, headboards, Moroccan lamps, lamp shades, hammocks, and other finds from the Palihouse archives. A DJ will be spinning through the event and coffee is available from the Espresso Bar.

Now, you can really truly have that hotel to room look I featured!

Starting on Friday, June 17th (and running until July 10th), both the Los Angeles and San Francisco HD Buttercup locations are having their half yearly sales with as much as 20-70% off the entire store (sofas, light fixtures, tables etc.).

Happy Shopping!

In the heart of West Hollywood, in the design district just off Melrose Avenue near the Pacific Design Center, is Filmore Clark – a showroom housing “artisan tiles.” The showroom features unique collections of glass, tile, and stone from domestic manufactures, including: Pratt Larson, Tempest Tileworks, Tile Guild, and more – including local artisans.  I have been working with Lee (the founder) for some of the bathroom projects I am currently working on. She’s been a huge help and has over 15 years of expertise!

Here’s a look at the Filmore Clark showroom:

The front facing part of the showroom faces the street, with parking and a rear entrace.  Collections line the walls and the space offers amazing lighting.

Colors, patterns, and textures of various sizes and shapes provide inspiration.

The front part of the showroom features handmade decorative tiles, many of which can be customized by color and design.

The front entrance of the space features additional decorative tiles handmade locally, which can also be customized.

The mosaic’s come in a range of colors and sizes, glossy and matte.

Love her collection of glass tiles, the color palette is the best I think I have ever seen (comes in both gloss and a sanded finish) and can be translated into a wealth of patterns.

Love the silver detailing and pattern on this glass tile!

This pattern is so fresh and fun (the sample is from a new shipment that Lee got in)!

And more glass patterns to choose from (I love the collection on the far right – definitely want to consider those for a next project!).

The ceramics also come in a huge assortment of colors. In fact, we are working with one of the bamboo patterns (from another tile collection) and using the solid crackle tile as a liner for the tile layout and design.

Hopefully, I will be able to feature the completed projects soon! Thanks Lee for all your help last week!

Awhile back, I came across these fun chairs with some straightforward and sassy messages! Couldn’t help but think one of these chairs in a room would add some whimsy!  With messages like, “OMG” and “Time Out” – definitely a conversation starter should one walk into a room with a chair like one of these.

The chairs are the work of artist Sarah Ashley Longshore, based in New Orleans.  Her artwork is embroidered on vinyl  that she uses to reupholster antique chairs. Sarah says, “Everything in New Orleans is about art and music and fabulous houses – that’s what’s inspired me to create these chairs.”
