This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending the 16th Costume Designers Guild Awards in Beverly Hills, CA. The event happens to be produced by a high school friend of mine who works for Jumpline, producers of the annual awards show.

image

On display and on loan from a costume house, were Dorothy’s red heels from the Wizard Of Oz – so neat to see in person! (And apparently my friend Deme had these on her coffee table before returning – ha!)

image

We were fortunate to have access to the VIP reception (celeb hangout), and I happen to catch actress Amy Adams in a flash.

image

Typhanie and I had fun taking selfies in the glamorous old school mirrors at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, where the event took place.

image

We also saw Mad Men actress, Kiernan Brennan Shipka, mingling before the awards ceremony.

image

Icon Raquel Welch presenting at the Costume Designers Guild Awards.

image

Typhanie looking glamorous in front of a classic vintage Buick we spotted upon leaving the Beverly Hilton.

image

The next day, I attended a post event brunch and panel discussion with several of the recognized and awarded costume designers.

image

The event was hosted by Lacoste.

image

On display were fashion designs by FIDM students representing various film genres.

image

After the symposium was a rooftop brunch (at Siren Studios) with views of Hollywood.

image

Shirley and I enjoying a gorgeous February day in LA (a glimpse of the Hollywood sign was in our backdrop).

image

And a very fun surprise: seeing our friend artist Gregory Siff art on the ground level entrance of Siren Studios.

This past week I attended a special event at Kelly Wearstler’s flagship boutique on Melrose for the celebration of the book, “In The Spirit Of Beverly Hills” published by Assouline. In attendance was both Kelly Wearstler and Nancie Clare, author of the book. The amazing photos in this post were taken by my friend and photographer, Marcia Prentice.

Nespresso recently opened their first ever flagship store here in Los Angeles, a boutique on Beverly Drive. With locations in both NYC and San Francisco, it was great to welcome a retail space here in LA. I happen to be a huge fan on Nespresso (as my Instagram and Twitter followers may know) and was excited when I received an invite to the exclusive launch party.

image

The new concept store features a slightly different vibe than previous stores. Contemporary furnishings with lighter finishes, such as the flooring, are all part of the new direction. The Beverly Hills location features a lounge area, an espresso bar for ordering drinks and food, and a retail space for purchases.

image

Nespresso welcomes tastings, a bar set up with machines is the perfect spot to come in and sample while browsing the assortment of products.

image

The colorful array of capsules are eye-catching (& make for a great display!).

image

At the opening night party I got to experience the great indoor / outdoor feel of the open space – perfect for Southern California weather!

image

The launch party was a packed crowd complete with performances by David Foster and American Idol alum Michael Johns. Along with¬†Tim Gunn, who we had the pleasure of meeting, hosted the night’s event.

If you happen to be in Beverly Hills, be sure to check out the new Nespresso Boutique at 320 N Beverly Drive.

I had an amazing past week at the Brizo Blogger 19 reunion that took place in Memphis, TN. Along with over seventy (!) other bloggers, fellow Material Girl and Chicago blogger Julia and I spent the past few days catching up with new and old friends, touring St. Judes Children’s Hospital, the Target House, the Delta / Brizo Factory, and numerous cocktail parties and dinners! Here’s a recap of my visit to Memphis and some highlights from the past week!

JillSeidner9

Having arrived a day early, myself along with a few other bloggers got the chance to explore Memphis, TN. Above is a view of the Mississippi River from Riverside Lane and Downtown Memphis.

JillSeidner4

And the Riverboats.

JillSeidner6

We stayed at The Peabody hotel, a historic hotel known for the “Peabody Ducks” – the twice daily marching of ducks from the elevator to the fountain. The picture above was the view from my room looking out past buildings to the river at sunset.

JillSeidner18

Of course, we couldn’t be in Memphis and not have BBQ. Our first night, upon recommendation, we had dinner at the very casual and tasty Central BBQ in downtown Memphis.

JillSeidner3

After dinner, we walked the neon lit signs and blues clubs of Beale Street.

JillSeidner12

One of the highlights of our trip was visiting Graceland. Here’s Christian of Maison21, Raina of A Stylist’s Life, me, and Tyler of Tyler Wisler Home standing in front of Elvis’ pad, Graceland Mansion.

JillSeidner1

We loved the chic, vintage vibe of Elvis’ house. The living room fireplace features a sunburst mirror and mirrored tiles.

JillSeidner11

How great is this console? Also in his living room. Love!

JillSeidner8

The pretty yard and rear of house at Graceland (beyond this is a pool area).

JillSeidner13

Christian checking out the golds (a seperate musuem adjacent to the house).

JillSeidner10

Along with the Graceland tour, we checked out Elvis’ private jet. Here’s Christian, me, and Tyler in front of the “Lisa Marie.”

JillSeidner14

Then came the cars: Elvis had lots of them. (Raina, Christian, and I pictured above.)

Screen Shot 2013-07-20 at 8.16.35 PM

The next day, came the important part of our trip, we toured the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital where we learned about the history of the center, walked the wings of the actual hospital, and engaged in a bit of volunteer work. Here in the atrium are international flags, as the center welcomes anyone, from anywhere.

JillSeidner16

We also toured the Target House, a center for patients and their families to stay in while receiving treatment. The facility features public living areas such as living/sitting rooms, a dining room, a play/craft room, a gym, and media room (above).

JillSeidner15

Corridors of the Target House are lined with a collection of artwork contributed by celebrities. The colorful drawing above is by John Travolta.

After a long day of tours, we cultimated our day with a dinner and entertainment in one of the historic ballroom’s at The Peabody hotel.

Screen Shot 2013-07-20 at 8.36.50 PM

The next day, we toured the Delta Factory headquarters in Jackson, TN. (Picture above via Instagram)

JillSeidner7

On our last night in Memphis, we had a farewell dinner at the infamous BB Kings Blues Club (where there just happens to be a private club on the second floor called Itta Bena, formerly a speakeasy!).

JillSeidner17

The dinner menu for the evening.

JillSeidner5

Our farewell dinner party at Itta Bena restaurant overlooking Beale Street.

Many thanks to Brizo for hosting all of us bloggers for the Blogger 19 reunion in Memphis, TN!
