Arco Floor Lamp for SALE

Posted By Rebecca-NY | Mar 15, 2011 | 11 Comments | Category: Decorating, Lighting, Sales

Sometimes working in the industry means you’re in on some of the best design deals out there.  If anyone is interested in an original Arco floor lamp (see photos below) please contact me for details.  This lamp is 100% authentic and the owner has the documentation to prove it!  It was originally purchased from the MOMA (and still resides in NYC) almost 4 years ago but is still in perfect condition.  For those of you who don’t know anything about the Arco floor lamp, here’s a little history:

Arco Floor Lamp – White Base Inspired by the design of a streetlight, the Castiglioni brothers’ dramatic steel and marble Arco Floor Lamp (1962) provides overhead lighting without requiring ceiling suspension. Supported by a weighty marble base, the Lamp’s polished stainless steel shade extends eight feet into a space, leaving room for a dining table or sofa to be positioned underneath the light source. To make the Lamp easier to carry and move, the designers placed a hole in the base that accommodates a broom handle. The edges of the marble block are beveled, which might appear to be decorative, but the real reason the brothers removed the block’s sharp corners was for safety. Designed by Achille Castiglioni and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for Flos, the Arco Lamp is one of the classics of modern lighting design and is part of MoMA’s permanent collection.

As you can see this lamp would be a beautiful addition to any room

Rumi

I was fortunate enough to attend the private preview party for the arts and antiques show at the armory last night and although most of the dealers had  stunning collections of furniture, jewelry, textiles and art, one gallery stood out amongst the rest for me.  Rumi Gallery that is located in both Canada and Stamford, CT had the most amazing modern art pieces on display so I had to share some of the work I saw.

Monet Door by Harold Barling Town

Blue and Red – Stewart Halley

Urban Ocean – Stewart Halley

Blind Dates – Nicholas Malcolm

Palm Sisters Dyptych – Nicholas Malcolm

Metal Guru – Nicholas Malcolm

Castaneb – Nicholas Malcolm

Poconos – Nicholas Malcolm

Please take a look for yourself at Rumi Gallery to see their collection of fine art and antiques.  You won’t be disappointed!  If you’re in NYC and have time to visit the show at the armory. it’s on all weekend.  I highly recommend swinging through if you need anything for yourself or a client.  It’s a great mixture of dealers so there’s something for everyone.  For more information visit the website here.

Office Space

Posted By Rebecca-NY | Mar 07, 2011 | 17 Comments | Category: Commercial Spaces, Decorating, Home Office

I’m currently looking for inexpensive office space in NYC which is next to impossible, but as I look around I begin to fantasize about how I would decorate the space (which would most likely be tiny).  There’s a fine line between the things you need (things that will actually make your office function properly) and the things you want (chandeliers, window treatments, a trendy desk and expensive art work).  So if you could design your own office and money was no issue, what would you do to the space?  I found a few offices/work spaces that I love and would probably take a little piece of each of them to create my own dream space.

An over the top design by Jonathan Adler that makes you want to create a gallery wall with all kinds of mixed media

Bunny Williams work space at home.  Things that make you go hmmm (love, love, love!)

The lacquered bookshelves and ceiling are to die for

A simple system at home with lots of shelving and storage!

An artists/decorators dream

A modern approach that’s sleek and clean

Go bold or go home!

There are so many things you can do to your office to create a fun and inviting space.  Just because it’s your office doesn’t mean is has to be blah.  The more fun you have with it, the more excited you’ll be to go to work every day!
