Cuckoo for Camo

Posted By Rebecca-NY | Feb 19, 2014 | No Comments | Category: Art, Color, Design Inspiration, Walls

I’m recently obsessed with anything camouflage which may or may not be trending at the moment — but I’m not sure it matters when it comes to Andy Warhol’s camo prints.  If you like anything Andy Warhol, you’re going to love these prints.  Full of color and movement these pieces can certainly pack a punch.  The versatility is endless too — I can see these prints in a living room, a playroom, a kitchen, a kids room, a den..you get the point.  If you can’t afford the real deal, there are plenty of reproduction prints for sale at places like art.com - just make sure you frame it so it looks like an original ;)

Obsession with Polka Dots

Posted By Rebecca-NY | Aug 20, 2013 | No Comments | Category: Uncategorized

The polka dot.  It’s been around for years and apparently it’s one of this season’s biggest trends.  Has it ever gone out of trend?  I remember wearing polka dots as a kid and for the longest time I thought of them as playful and juvenile.  As an adult I went through my phases, a polka dot skirt here and a polka dot scarf there, but  it never quite phased me why I was choosing to wear these things or if they were trendy.  The polka dot was just there and available.  It’s a simple statement yet these days seems so sophisticated and fresh and apparently has lasting power.   Therefore, I have a new obsession with the polka dot.  Whether it’s in my wardrobe,  a fabric or a fun piece of art I find myself drawn in and wanting more.  Am I a victim of this trend or have I always loved the polka dot?

The Artist Relief Project

Posted By Rebecca-NY | Nov 29, 2012 | No Comments | Category: Uncategorized

Various Artists have come together and made a pledge to donate 50% of their proceeds to the New York Foundation for the Arts’ Emergency Relief Fund for Hurricane Sandy.  A few of these artists had artwork that was damaged and destroyed during the storm so they know first hand what it was like to lose valuable possessions during the hurricane.  They have created ‘The Artist Relief Project‘ which is an online exhibit (Nov. 28 – Dec. 17) to help victims get back on their feet.  Take a look at the participating artists and see if there’s a way you can help them recover from their losses.  It’s a great way to help those in need and get some Holiday shopping done at the same time!

The Art of Pouring

Posted By Rebecca-NY | Jul 25, 2012 | 3 Comments | Category: Uncategorized

One of the cooler things I’ve seen in awhile was recently brought to my attention through Facebook so I decided I must share it with my fellow design lovers and friends.  Do you ever look at a painting and wonder exactly how it was created, what mediums, techniques and tools were used?  How hard is it to create something similar?  I do.  All the time.  Watch THIS VIDEO  and see an example of an artist who uses one of the more unique techniques to create these one of a kind “pours”.  The end result is truly remarkable.

All About Color

Posted By Rebecca-NY | May 15, 2012 | 5 Comments | Category: Uncategorized

Abstract art seems to be the “it” thing these days and it’s hard to stay focused on just one artist when there are so many amazing talents out there like Reagan Geschardt.   Reagan and her husband Danny (who is also an artist) recently moved back to the NYC area from Naples, FL where they ran a very successful decorative arts business.  Reagan was trained in trompl l’oiel  murals and fine art  but has now started to focus on creating and selling her abstract works which are interpretations of her daily experiences.  Some of her current paintings study the interplay of color and light using water and landscapes and things that surround her.  The colors are magnificent and might be just what your room is missing.  For more information visit Reagan’s website here and find out about upcoming events so you can see her work in person!  Art is beautiful no matter how you look at it, but let’s be honest, it’s best in living color!

Danny Geschardt (Reagan’s husband) also sells his abstract paintings and these two seem to work well as a team!  See Danny’s work below:

Between the two of them I’d say there’s something here for everyone.  The colors are enough to make me forget about all the rain we’ve been getting lately.  So don’t let your home get too gloomy – it’s time to add some abstract color!
