Katherine Rally Textiles

Posted By Rebecca-NY | Apr 10, 2013 | No Comments | Category: Uncategorized

As I’m selecting fabrics for my own apartment I’m realizing how difficult it is to commit to something when there are so many fabulous designs and textiles out there.  I’ve come across several lines that I absolutely love so I thought I’d highlight one that stands out and that I keep coming back to..Katherine Rally Textiles.  Her collection is somewhere in the middle of a modern geometric and a hand printed batik which is the perfect balance – especially if you’re looking to coordinate with a more traditional floral.  Take a look at some of her fabulous prints below:

Throw & Co

Posted By Rebecca-NY | Feb 21, 2013 | 1 Comment | Category: Uncategorized

There are a lot of companies out there who have tried to perfect the decorative throw pillow but not all have succeeded.  In most cases I’ll have my own pillows made for my clients so that they work perfectly with the custom scheme but sometimes I’m working with a smaller budget or I’m in a pinch and need something quick.  Therefore, I’m always looking for a good source.  I was extremely pleased to come across this new company Throw & Co on Facebook today.  The creator, Meg Gabriele, wanted to make custom designed and professionally made pillows for the public.  They’re fun, creatively trimmed and will offer just the right amount of impact to your space without breaking the bank.  Some of my favorites are below but take a look at the website to see the full collection.

As usual, Kelly Wearstler is making noise in the design world with her new collection of rugs at The Rug Company and latest and greatest book Rhapsody – a stunning creation of her luxurious interiors that showcase her swanky old-world Hollywood and modern pop style.  We all know she loves bold color, pattern and texture so take a look inside her world and see how she works behind the scenes to create such fascinating and inspirational designs.  She’s one of a kind and might I add, extremely humble and gracious in person – a breath of fresh air in the decorating world!

Going Green

Posted By Rebecca-NY | Jan 22, 2013 | 5 Comments | Category: Uncategorized

As I begin to shop and scheme for a new client I have to keep in mind her mention and love for the color green.  It just so happens that emerald green is Pantone’s color of the year, so lucky for me, there’s some inspiration out there.  I’ve always loved green — it’s a color that surrounds us and makes our gardens, lawns and forests as pretty as they are.  It’s refreshing and relaxing which is why I can’t wait to get started and create a wonderful space for my client using green.  Take a look at some inspiration I’ve found while cruising the web:

For those of you who love the industrial chic look of Restoration Hardware but you haven’t been able to get that look because you live in a small city apartment – you’re in luck!  RH has recently launched a new line called ‘Big Style Small Spaces’.  True story.  You can now shop at RH regardless of the scale of your home.  They’ve created this line with us city dwellers in mind, and as they have always done, made it with perfection.  So what are you waiting for?  Take a look at their catalog today or visit their ‘small spaces‘ section online.  You’ll be thrilled to see what they’ve come up with and even happier once it’s in your home!

Small 1 bedroom apartment in Portland looking chic and fit for a bachelor

Big styles working their magic oversees

The perfect size table and chairs and enough room for the bar which makes your guests happy!

Plenty of options for styles, shapes and finishes

They’ve scaled down the sofas so you can still have the look while keeping everything in proportion.  Don’t be afraid to use oversized lamp shades, however.  They make a great statement!

As you can see there’s a lot you can work with to make your small space just as stylish as those who have extra square footage.  Time for that makeover you’ve been dreaming about.. and don’t forget to look at their art – they’ve got some game changers in that department :)

Dazzling us All

Posted By Rebecca-NY | Sep 21, 2012 | 2 Comments | Category: Uncategorized

If you love her style then you’re going to love her new book ‘Dazzling Design’ filled with inspiration, beautiful photography and just about every imaginable way to decorate your home from bold and colorful to calm and soothing.  Amanda Nisbet has captured almost everything in her first design book and is a true believer in bending and breaking the rules.  Her philosophy: ” When rooms are too perfect, they can be a bit lifeless.  My solution is to completely finish a space, then add an element that throws it a bit off balance.”  It’s nice to know that imperfection can be a good thing.  I’m taking a page out of her book and I think you should too!

God Bless the mixing of old and new

Order ‘Dazzling Design’ here and tour through her favorite projects including her own apartment in New York City

Her use of color is absolutely bold and stunning!

Fall Color Trends

Posted By Rebecca-NY | Sep 10, 2012 | 1 Comment | Category: Uncategorized

Summer is sadly on its way out but Fall is approaching and with weather like we have today in NYC, I can’t exactly complain.  The sun is shining, there’s a nice breeze and humidity seems to be a thing of the past.  I could have easily just jinxed us, but let’s focus on what is important and that is the Fall color trends of 2012.  Pantone follows these trends with a close eye every year and new season so I thought it would be fun to look at the colors and see how we did in the decorating world.  I selected some rooms that I thought were done tastefully, using these Fall colors.

A beautiful lacquered “french roast” living room by Jeffrey Bilhuber from Architectural Digest

A punch of  ”honey gold” to give this room some cheer

“Pink flambe” isn’t just for the girly rooms

Ashley Whittaker uses “tangerine tango” in this latticed sunroom

This “ultramarine green” gives a nice casualness and calming effect

You can’t go wrong with a pop of ” bright chartreuse”

Very timely having just had the Summer 2012 games – “olympian blue”

Thom Felicia knows how to create a sanctuary with “titanium”

The “rhapsody” walls give this otherwise formal room some playfullness

The walls feel very neutral and soothing with this “rose smoke”

One Kings Lane Blogger Challenge

Posted By Rebecca-NY | Jul 19, 2012 | 4 Comments | Category: Uncategorized

So I was recently asked to participate in a blogger’s challenge on One Kings Lane which I was delighted about.  The concept was simple; OKL sent me five (5) items from their ‘Vintage & Market Finds‘ which I was to use in my own home by revamping an area that needed a little love and tenderness.  Although my space is small (and by small I mean tiny west village apartment that barely holds all my belongings but it’s ok because the location is everything) there’s plenty of revamping to do, especially with some new cool OKL vintage finds.  With that, I chose the area off my kitchen which is sort of a dining slash side table which could use some serious styling and decorating  in general.  The before picture is quite dull and boring so you’ll be happy to see that I’ve given this space a little life.  Our home, afterall, is a place where we should rest easy and be able to kick back and smile after a long day.  Giving it a little color and style is one of the best ways I know how to create that place of joy.

BEFORE

As you can see, there was no love on this table so that’s where OKL saved the day.

With the items OKL sent me, I brought in a few of my own objects, books, artwork and most importantly love.  I wanted to create an eclectic mix of old and new which is what I’m drawn to as a designer and an artist – lucky for me there’s a lot out there (both old and new) that helps me create the perfect blend.  Pops of abstract art against something vintage makes the old seem instantly new and trendy.  You can accomplish a bold fresh look but still keep those family heirlooms on display.  Not only are you mixing your styles but you’re combining generations of meaningful pieces which is what makes everything come full circle.  So the next time you think that bright, colorful abstract art won’t work in your more traditional room, think again!!

The End Result:

AFTER

Take a look at the full challenge on OKL and read more about the revamp and what was used and why!
