The Art of Pouring

Posted By Rebecca-NY | Jul 25, 2012 | 3 Comments | Category: Uncategorized

One of the cooler things I’ve seen in awhile was recently brought to my attention through Facebook so I decided I must share it with my fellow design lovers and friends.  Do you ever look at a painting and wonder exactly how it was created, what mediums, techniques and tools were used?  How hard is it to create something similar?  I do.  All the time.  Watch THIS VIDEO  and see an example of an artist who uses one of the more unique techniques to create these one of a kind “pours”.  The end result is truly remarkable.

Inspiration Moves Me Brightly

Posted By Rebecca-NY | Jun 28, 2012 | 3 Comments | Category: Uncategorized

As we all know abstract art has become quite the trend lately and I’ve enjoyed seeing all of those artists emerge over the past couple of years; so much so, that they’ve inspired me to get out my own paints and canvas’ and go crazy with color.  I’ve discovered two things:  1. These paintings are not as easy to do as they look (a lot of comments about how your children could create something similar) and 2. They’ve been adding some nice color to my space.  Abstract art is where it’s at.  Take a look at some of my paintings below and see if they inspire you to get out the paints and do a little DIY!

This last piece was done by a friend of mine, Vanessa Bogosian — which is amazingly colorful and bold and has that oh so ikat effect that we all love!

All About Color

Posted By Rebecca-NY | May 15, 2012 | 5 Comments | Category: Uncategorized

Abstract art seems to be the “it” thing these days and it’s hard to stay focused on just one artist when there are so many amazing talents out there like Reagan Geschardt.   Reagan and her husband Danny (who is also an artist) recently moved back to the NYC area from Naples, FL where they ran a very successful decorative arts business.  Reagan was trained in trompl l’oiel  murals and fine art  but has now started to focus on creating and selling her abstract works which are interpretations of her daily experiences.  Some of her current paintings study the interplay of color and light using water and landscapes and things that surround her.  The colors are magnificent and might be just what your room is missing.  For more information visit Reagan’s website here and find out about upcoming events so you can see her work in person!  Art is beautiful no matter how you look at it, but let’s be honest, it’s best in living color!

Danny Geschardt (Reagan’s husband) also sells his abstract paintings and these two seem to work well as a team!  See Danny’s work below:

Between the two of them I’d say there’s something here for everyone.  The colors are enough to make me forget about all the rain we’ve been getting lately.  So don’t let your home get too gloomy – it’s time to add some abstract color!

Modern Art

Posted By Rebecca-NY | Apr 20, 2010 | 6 Comments | Category: Art, Decorating, Design Inspiration, Walls

Often times you’ll look around your room and wonder what’s missing.  The furniture is there, the window treatments are up, the rug is down and it’s feeling cozy but not quite complete.  Chances are you’re missing the one element that brings it all together.  ART!  I’ve been eyeing this one photograph in a small coffee shop on Bleeker Street and I’m just waiting for the perfect client to sell it to.  It’s by photographer Frank Louis and can be found in his Italy collection.

I also have a client who recently purchased a few David Burdeny prints from Lumas gallery in NYC which you can also buy online.  Take a look at his collection to see which colors work best with your decor.

I found a few addtional artists and photographs i also like from Lumas Gallery for those of you who want a modern edge!

I love this last series for a beach house
