Privacy Policy

Privacy and trust are important to us.  That’s why we want to make it clear to readers of our blog that we will never – under any circumstances, not even in a million years – share your e-mail address or any other personal information with any third parties.

Usage of Material Girls

Like almost every other site, we do keep a few web geeks around who help us understand non-personally-identifying information, the kind that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request.  We do this so we can find out how our readers stumble upon our site, and how they use the site once they’re here.  Oh, and did we mention that all of this information is collected in aggregate form and none of it is personally identifiable.

Personal Info

Some of our readers choose to interact with Material Girls in ways that require our resident web geeks to gather personally-identifying information.  The amount and type of information that Material Girls asks for depends on the nature of the interaction. For example, we ask those posting comments to provide a name, URL and email address.  And we only ask for this stuff because it’s necessary and/or appropriate to fulfill the purpose of the visitor’s interaction on the Web site.

For Material Girls subscribers, we do ask for a little information about you during sign-up that helps us make improvements to the site and learn about our readers.  It’s just basic details like age, location and education.  And if that’s not your cup of tea, you can skip that part of the sign-up process and join anyway.  We may share this type of information with third parties, but only in aggregate, anonymous form and mostly to people who want to know the typical profile of a “material girl.”  And, just in case this point hasn’t sinked in yet – no third party will receive information from us that personally identifies our readers and/or subscribers in any way, and visitors can always refuse to supply personally-identifying information.

Having nothing to do with chocolate-chip or peanut butter, an internet cookie is a string of information that a Web site stores on a visitor’s computer, and that the visitor’s browser provides back to that site each time the visitor returns.  Material Girls uses cookies to help identify and track visitors, their usage of the site, and their preferences. You should also know that our advertisers and sponsors may place or recognize a unique cookie on your browser that does basically the same thing.  If this all sounds a little too off-putting, readers can set their browsers to refuse cookies before using Material Girls.  However, certain features of Material Girls may not function properly without the aid of cookies.

While we certainly would hate to see you go, you can unsubscribe from Material Girls at any time.  All it takes is a click of the mouse on the “Unsubscribe” link found at the bottom of any Material Girl e-mail.  After a few simple steps, you’re able to opt-out and we’ll remorsefully go our separate ways.  Subscribers can also opt-out via the “Unsubscribe” link on the bottom of the homepage.

Privacy Policy Changes

Although most changes are likely to be minor, Material Girls may change its Privacy Policy from time to time, and at our sole discretion.  We encourage visitors to frequently check this page for any changes to our Privacy Policy. Your continued use of this site after any change in this Privacy Policy will constitute your acceptance of such change.
